When I was in my teens I've always wanted to hear the newest songs and the latest top ten music for the month. Being a mom with two kids now, I find it a challenge sometimes to be updated with the current music trends. Having kids around, I always try to filter the music we listen to at home. I always want to fill the air with songs that are uplifting and brimming with ‘positive’ message.
I do love music but I seldom watch concerts. When was the last time I watched one? I think it was last year, when I was invited to watch the launch of Sunshine, the warm, cheerful, EP album of Trisha Denise Campañer. I thought, well, finally, a delightful me-time, a live concert to get some fresh, new ‘positive’ songs. If you’re like me who is also looking for family-friendly music, then I highly recommend listening to all the songs of Trisha’s Sunshine album. Born to Dennis and Charmaine Campaner, both Papuri singers, Trisha has inherited her parents’ love and talent for music. But what’s fascinating with Trisha is her ability to compose her own music, play it on her guitar and effortlessly sing it. Prior to her EP launch, Trisha has already made songs that we have heard on the radio— in 2015, Teka Muna Pag-Ibig, sang by Janella Salvador, and in 2017, Alam na This, sang by Kisses Delavin. In her EP launch, the song Mahalaga, had its story from an exposure to extreme bullying. She was hurt physically which left deep emotional scars. She almost committed suicide. Trisha narrated her story during her concert that on the night she wanted to end her life, her father Dennis knocked and came in to her room. Her father comforted her and reassured her that she is very much loved. She was also reminded It’s not just her family who deeply loves and cares for her but also God, in Whose eyes we are all precious and important. Mahal which means love, and alaga which means care, are the two words she said she combined in the song. Mahalaga is now an Original Soundtrack of the movie Between Maybes, a recent film that starred Julia Barretto and Gerald Anderson. I am not surprised that it was chosen. Songs that radiate hope and solace have that beautiful appeal because everybody can relate to that need. Mahalaga was nominated Ballad Song of the Year at the 4th Wish Music Awards 2019. Trisha is also inspired by Ed Sheeran. During her EP album launch she serenaded us with a medley of Photograph, Thinking Out Loud, and Perfect. She also sang Dahil Sa Iyo by Inigo Pascual. What kept us all in awe during her concert is her versatility. She can make you cry, fall in love, then lift your mood with an upbeat song. Some of her guests in the concert were Timmy Pavino and Sam Mangubat, who made the front act. She also has a love song in the album, Both Sides, a duet with Jason Dy. I hope Trisha will launch another EP album soon. I was glad I bought her CD which I keep playing in the car. Her songs will definitely bring Sunshine to your day. I loved the venue of the concert, D’ Cup Coffee Republic, and the very lively host, Lyn Abad. Trisha was also very engaging as she entertained guests with some games targeted for couples as she launched the album in the month of February. Trisha is currently creating more and more songs. Last year she was one of the participants in the Elements Music Camp where she composed “Sweet Like Honey”. Even with our long list of new artists in the Philippines, I am sure one of Trisha’s songs will some day be on the top. Trisha is also a broadcaster in Far East Broadcasting Company for the program “Papuri!”, a gospel music program. Recently, she was also chosen to sing Kapag Ako Ay Nagmahal, the theme song of ABS CBN's ongoing teleplay Sino Ang May Sala. Indeed, she has been blessed with so many talents.
